Is Winter Drying Your Skin Out?

With the humidity of summer gone and the brutal cold weather settling in, your skin is bound to be dehydrated, itchy and often times irritated. These profound negative affects to your skin can make for a long winter.

Our Aesthetic students wanted to share their top tips and tricks on how to help you prepare and take care of your skin for this frigid winter weather.

Tip #1 Make your skin routine counts! Stay in routine with makeup, cleansing and working out, because what you do to and with your body is direct reflection of how healthy your skin is. – Savannah

Tip #2 Use Fragrance free skincare products! Fragrance can lead to redness, itchy skin and even hives. During the winter, dry skin can be even more susceptible to reactions. In the U.S. the FDA has no regulations for companies to disclose fragrance ingredients. Bioelements skincare products do not contain any artificial colorants, synthetic fragrances or parabens. Give them a try to help your skin keep up with your winter lifestyle. –Alyssa

Tip #3  Now that the holidays are around the corner and the weather is cooling down, it’s time to take care of yourself and hydrate your skin. If you have sensitive and acne prone skin like me, you will love the barrier fix daily hydrator! This moisturizer targets irritation and strengthens the skin barrier. Also, stay hydrated and drink lots of water. Can’t wait to see you at TSPA this holiday season.  –Kaiya

Tip #4 Don’t Forget to Hydrate! To keep your skin hydrated and not looking and feeling dry, I recommend exfoliating 2-3 times a week and using a hydrating serum before moisturizing. The measured Micrograins exfoliate and Recovery Serum from Bioelements works great for this! –Amber

Tip#5 Humidify your space! Heating our homes dries out the air as well as your skin. Using a humidifier to reintroduce moisture into your homes allows you to control the environment which is a great way to ultimately control the skin. Humidifiers help increase the air hydration levels by forcing moisture into the air. Skin is our largest organ, and heat is naturally very drying so it’s important to keep the air as hydrated as possible. – Hannah

Tip #6 It is so so so so IMPORTANT to make sure that you are drinking enough water. If you’re dehydrated it will show in your skin. Beautiful and healthy skin starts from within. It’s recommended that we drink at least half of our body weight in ounces of water every day. –Erin

Tip #7 Moisturizer Moisturizer! Swap foundation for a tinted moisturizer, doing this will help provide both coverage and a moisture boost. I don’t know about you but my skin gets crazy dry during the winter months. In addition to the swapping of moisturizer try a few of my favorite Bioelements products: Urban Undo Cleanser– this helps get rid of the environmental damage caused on skin and Really Rich Moisture – this product helps to put hydration back into the skin. – Jaiden

Tip #8  Avoid taking too hot of showers and baths. Hot water removes oil and moisture from your skins surface. Taking shorter lukewarm showers will be more protective for your skin. If you’re like me though and love hot showers during the winter time, use Bioelements Gel Therapy, this is a mask that will hydrate and soothe your skin. Also, use Absolute Moisture a lightweight product that balances your skins water-to-oil moisture levels and also minimizes your surface wrinkles. –Carly

It might not seem like these small changes would make much of a difference, but remember that small actions can cause big results.
