Looking your best is a very important part of prom. You can look your best and still stay on your budget!

  • Borrow a dress or a suit from a friend or a relative. Chances are you’re not the first person to attend a prom.
  • Rent a dress or suit. No need to buy an expensive dress that you most likely will only wear once. But if you insist, we recommend Edith’s Bridal in the Fox River Mall!
  • Buy a vintage dress. Visit your local thrift store or check out consignment shops! You might find the perfect dress that is unique and even better, cheap! We love Tiffany’s Bridal and Consignment!
  • Make your own dress or suit. Wearing something that you made will not only save you money but will be so satisfying when everyone is gushing over your look. Take a risk, you may just love it!

Transportation

Renting a limo can be too expensive. It doesn’t matter what gets you to the party, the only thing that matters is that you get there.

  • Have a family member or a friend be your chauffeur! Make it fun and have them dress up as well.
  • Ride with friends with whatever car you can take! When you’re with your friends, any situation can be fun and special.
  • Look around your community. See if your local activity center has a bus you can borrow. Dress it up and arrive in style.

Enjoy Yourself!

No matter how much money you do or don’t spend, the most important thing to do is to have fun! Prom can be a very special part of high school. Make it a positive experience for you and your friends! We love being able to be apart of the excitement of prom. Book an appointment with us today! From all of us here at The Salon Professional Academy, Appleton, we hope you have a magical prom!

Why You Should Start in June (or before)

Could You Qualify For Added Funds For Cosmetology School?

June Start Dates Are The Best Start Dates  – Why You Should Start Cosmetology In June (or before)

June is an amazing month! The sun is shining, summer is beginning, and those mysterious vacations are getting ever closer. But June also holds another little secret, one that if you have been thinking about starting cosmetology school could result in added funds for school in the form of grants and federal aid. That probably seems like a mouthful. And that’s to be expected. Financial aid can be a confusing and sometimes daunting process. To help ease any confusion, here are a few basics, as well as details as to how starting in summer can result in added financial benefits.

Beauty School Financial Aid

The FAFSA

The Salon Professional Academy Appleton is proud to offer financial aid to those who qualify. To apply for financial aid students will be asked to fill out the FAFSA. This is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It will compile all of your information and determine your award amount. The award amount that you receive is based off of many things, including income and schooling.

Loan Types

There are two different types of loans that you can get through the federal loan system: subsidized and unsubsidized. The interest on subsidized loans is paid by the federal government while you are in school or your loans are deferred. Unsubsidized loans on the other hand, accrue interest while you are in school. This is important to remember as the money you borrow will have to be paid back, and the type of loan it is, will determine the interest and even the monthly payment amount.

Federal Pell Grant

When applying for federal aid through the FAFSA you are also applying for the Pell Grant. This is a federal grant that is distributed based on need. Pell grants are only available for undergrad students, or students receiving certain degrees. You can qualify for the federal Pell Grant as a student at TSPA Appleton. Unlike federal loans, Pell Grants do not need to be repaid, and can make a considerable dent in your education financing.

Summer Aid Benefit

As mentioned at the beginning, starting school in June can create an added benefit towards financial aid. This is because the FAFSA stretches from July 1st to June 30th in a year span, meaning that if you begin school prior to the June 30th cut off you will be receiving funds, and possibly even a Pell Grant, from the previous year and then again in July when the cycle resets itself. Utilizing the FAFSA scheduling in such a way can help to eliminate any funding gap you may have, as well as take full advantage of any pell grant you may receive, ultimately decreasing the amount you will have to pay back. If financials have been keeping you from pursuing your dreams, don’t let this June pass you by. Contact our Admissions Team and get your application process started before time runs out! The start date for June is the 25th!

*Financial aid, scholarships and payment plans are available to those who qualify. The Salon Professional Academy Appleton is located at 3355 W. College Ave. Appleton, WI 54914. Feel free to call us at 920-968-0434 for more information or go to www.tspaappleton.com

Ready To Start Something New? Discover What a Career In Beauty Could Offer You

If you find yourself wishing that you were in a different career, you’re not alone. Many college students change majors at least once, if not twice before graduation. Although changing a career once you’ve been in a field for a few years can be challenging, it’s not impossible. No matter what held you back from pursuing your dream job, it’s time to break down the barriers. The Salon Professional Academy can help you take the steps you need to enter the beauty industry.

If you’ve always dreamed of working in the beauty industry, then yBeauty Industry, Beauty Career. Ask How To Get Started In The Beauty Industry Todayou need information. It’s important to know the facts before changing careers. Here are seven reasons many people get into the field:

  • Beauty is timeless. Cosmetology is an evergreen career, because there will always be people who need to have their hair cut and styled.
  • The beauty industry is a career that travels. You may find yourself working at a spa in the Rocky Mountains, a cruise ship or in a small town. The choice is yours, and it’s not limited by the industry.
  • The employment growth rate for cosmetologists, barbers and hairdressers is 13 percent, which is faster than the average of 6 to 7 percent for most careers.
  • In a beauty career, you have more flexibility to set your own hours. You can own your business, but even when you’re working for someone else, you have many opportunities to work outside the normal 9 to 5 schedule.
  • The beauty industry has a lot of creativity and changes. Think back 20, 30 or 50 years. Hair and makeup styles have come a long way. Cosmetologists and beauticians are trendsetters. If you want to be on the frontline of creating new style and learning new trends, beauty school might be the place for you.
  • You have the opportunity to touch people’s lives. As a cosmetologist, you will interact with your community every day, helping each person become the best version of themselves. It’s rewarding to see someone smile when their hair is styled in a way that suits them.
  • Beauty school is a non-traditional environment. If you learn best by actually doing, not listening to lectures, cosmetology school is for you. That’s not to say you won’t have to sit through a lecture now and then, but you will get to put your skills to work right away.

Don’t Let These Common Misconceptions Hold You Back

  1. You aren’t going to make enough in a beauty career to support your family.

Although what you earn often depends on your motivation, your skills and where you work, you’ll find many salons that have cosmetologists as the owner/entrepreneur. The opportunities are only limited by your imagination and talent.

  1. Cosmetology isn’t a real career.

There’s an underlying notion that a career isn’t a “real” career unless college is involved, but the beauty industry has strict regulations that require classes in chemistry, anatomy, business management and more. Cosmetologists are required to prove their skills through licensing and get continuing education to maintain their place in the field.

  1. I don’t have time to pursue my dreams.

Whether you work weird hours, have kids or just have a demanding job that you can’t leave while you’re learning new skills, it doesn’t make sense to leave your dreams on the table. Sometimes, you just need to know your options about how you can make changes to get to where you want. After all, most things in life that hold you back won’t change without some effort on your part.

At The Salon Professional Academy, we have different schedule options that can help you take the first steps towards a cosmetology career. If it seems impossible that you can find the time, money or education, let one of our enrollment specialists brainstorm with you about how you can make it happen.
